Breast Cancer-a title in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute series-has been produced in full color and is richly illustrated throughout. Diagnostic studies in breast cancer and current concepts regarding clinical and pathological staging are also described. The style is lucid and the approach holistic. It provides decision trees for various clinical situations. Particularly valuable is the step-by-step description of how breast cancer is characterized or staged according to tumor size, hormone receptors, and other factors-and the implications for prognosis. The book covers all areas of breast cancer, including mammography, surgery, chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, and metastatic disease. Each chapter deals with a different subject, and a detailed index makes it easy to search for specific information. The authors have provided tables and diagrams wherever possible. Every step Every step has detailed tables with histopathological classification, diagnostic studies and, when important, prognostic factors.

This step-by-step guide offers newly diagnosed patients a path, through the complex and often overwhelming array of information. There are helpful tables and illustrations, accompanied by clearly presented medical information, all conveyed in an inclusive and supportive tone.

Current therapies are discussed in detail and useful algorithms are provided that can help arrive at treatment decisions. Online (www.adjuvantonline.com) ; this can be of considerable usefulness to patients, helping them decide whether or not to take additional treatment.

Predictive biomarkers of sensitivity to specific treatment are required for tailoring treatment and improving cost-effectiveness. Breast cancer chemosensitivity with critical aspects of resistance to systemic therapy in breast cancer patients. Beginning with a clinical overview of the problem, the book then focuses on the latest findings on the molecular mechanisms of drug resistance and recurrence of breast cancer.

Practical issues relating to management of specific problems are also given, such as dealing with the systemic and mucocutaneous reactions to chemotherapy, including alopecia, fatigue and Extravasation of chemotherapeutic agents.

Management of breast cancer involves the use of many different modalities of treatment. The editors have concentrated on providing the reader with an overview of breast cancer, discussing all the medications and modalities, except for radiation treatment. They have also described the role of biological markers and biological targeted therapy.
