Recently, researchers have been looking for new strategies to combat diseases like cancer. Earlier researches have shown that fruits like pomegranate are rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity and are effective against tumors in mouse skin. In fact, pomegranate juice has very high antioxidant property and appears promising as an anticancer agent.
The UW research team aimed to discover if pomegranate extract could, in addition to killing existing cancer cells, also help prevent cancer initiation itself. Using human prostate cancer cells, the team first evaluated the fruit extract's effect at various doses. They found a 'dose-dependent' effect-in other words, more cells died as the dose of pomegranate extract was increased.
It needs further evaluation in human clinical trials
